Sterling Silver and Blue Agate Earrings
The blue of this Agate is stunning 💙. It’s a deep iridescent blue, like the Caribbean Sea.
I have soldered a filigree crown style setting onto a cushion square shaped piece of 1mm thick Sterling Silver.
They have an Art Deco feel about them…my favourite era for jewellery.
The stone a is 10mm round cabochon Blue Agate, set into a Sterling Silver Filigree Crown style setting.
The back plate is a 12.8mm square of 1mm thick Sterling Silver which has rounded corners to give it a “cushion” look.
The pendant part of the earring simply hangs from a Sterling Silver earring hook.
The overall length of the earring is approximately 35mm.
The earring “pendant” measures approximately 19mm.
Both earrings are 925 stamped on the reverse.
ABOUT THE STONE:
Agate is a common rock formation, consisting of Chalcedony and Quartz as its primary components, with a wide variety of colours. Agates are primarily formed within volcanic and metamorphic rocks. The ornamental use of agate dates back to Ancient Greece in assorted jewellery and in the seal stones of Greek warriors. Use of beads necklaces with pierced and polished agate goes further back to the 3rd millennium BCE in the Indus Valley civilisation.
Agate is the birthstone for the zodiac sign of Gemini, but is not a traditional birthstone for a birth month. Blue is associated with truth, loyalty and reliability. Its importance for healing has been recognised since the Golden Age of Greece.
